A member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) based in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tried to kill himself after he allegedly shot his girlfriend, also a member of the SANDF based in the DRC, the SANDF said on Saturday.
The man was in a critical condition in hospital in Goma.

Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Defence Secretary Sam Gulube, and SANDF chief Lt-Gen Solly Shoke expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased member, Mgobozi said.
