So Sad!! Another South African Gospel Singer Dies At 51

Gospel  singer, Nolitha Langa has been confirmed dead by her family. According to family spokeswoman Thenjiwe Cungwa, the 51-year-old singer passed away at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital last Thursday after suffering from a brief illness.

She added that the family was still struggling to come to terms with the news of the singer’s death. Langa briefly had a throat infection before she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, the infection took its toll on her, leading to her death. “She had tonsillitis and went to hospital on Sunday. She was admitted – unfortunately on Thursday we received the sad news that she had passed away,” Cungwa said. The singer’s death took everyone by surprise because the family had spent Christmas and New Year with Langa at a family gathering.

She was fine at the time and didn’t look like she was dying anytime soon. “We are still very shocked and saddened,” she said. Furthermore, Cungwa described Langa as a peacemaker who loved unity and peace. “She would not be reluctant to apologise if she realised that she was wrong. If it were for her she would leave in peace with everyone,” she said. The singer will be buried in Mdantsane tomorrow.

In tribute to the singer who has touched lives with her music, friends and fellow artists described her as a “true worshiper” who took her faith very seriously. Phumeza Maziko who is one of her backing vocalists, said they would do chain prayers each time they went on stage.

“She took the singing ministry very seriously and she instilled that into us as well,” she said. To her, Langa was a woman of “prayer who feared the Lord”.
