Renowned Actress Terry Pheto Nominated Alongside US Stars For Her Winnie Mandela Role

Renowned actress Terry Pheto has received a lot of international recognition and the accolades keep pouring in from different angles.

The actress has added yet another accolade to her growing list of achievements in the international sphere. Terry has been nominated for a Black Reel Award for her role as Winnie Mandela in the BET drama Madibain which she stars alongside Laurence Fishburne.

The news was posted on the Twitter page for the annual American awards ceremony.

The ceremony is hosted by the Foundation for the Augmentation of African-Americans in Film to recognize excellence in African-American, as well as Africans around the world who have made a statement in the film industry.

While this is Terry’s very first Black Reel Award nomination, she will have to go up against American big shots in the industry including Sanaa Lathan, Loretta Devine, Oprah Winfrey and Nia Long in the Outstanding Actress, TV Movie/Limited series category. Let’s just say the competition is flames, but Terry got what it takes to be there.

Excited about the news, Terry took to Twitter to express her thanks and honour at the recognition.

Consequently, congratulations have been streaming in from fans and high profile personalities including Minister Nathi Mthethwa.

While the ceremony will be held on 3 August, Terry already won the spot in our hearts as she continues to fly the SA flag high.

According to actress Terry Pheto, taking the lead role of Winnie Mandela in the BET’s mini-series which tells the chronicle of Nelson Mandela‚ is the climax in her whole career and a dream come true.

The series was based on two Mandela autobiographies – “Conversations With Myself” and “Nelson Mandela by Himself.” In addition to detailing the early years of Nelson Mandela’s journey, the show also reportedly pays homage to many lesser-known great men and women who made sacrifices during the quest for freedom in South Africa.
