Pretoria and Johannesburg made the top 10 of cities where the cost of living had increased the most last year.
Pretoria and Johannesburg were among the cities with the highest increase in cost of living in the world over the past year.
According to the worldwide cost of living report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Pretoria and Johannesburg shot up 11 and 13 spots, respectively, up in the rankings of the most expensive cities.
“The two cities were both included in the top 10 list of cities where the cost of living had increased the most over the past year.” according to the report.
The EIU said: “Johannesburg rose to 105th most expensive city while Pretoria rose to 110th.”
Singapore is still the world’s most expensive city for the fifth year in a row, with a loaf of bread costing $3.71 (R44).
Damascus in Syria and Caracas in Venezuela were found to be the cheapest cities.
