Electricity giant, Eskom has called on the public to reduce their electricity consumption as two generation units are offline and the generation system is constrained. It warns that any additional breakdowns will compromise Eskom’s ability to supply the country through the peak period of demand.
Eskom spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha warned if more generating units keep on failing, the utility will resort to load-shedding sooner than anticipated.
“Eskom teams are hard at work trying to return these units to service,” the utility said in a statement.
“The public’s cooperation in managing demand will help us supply the country’s demand through peak periods.”
