For Men: Regular Exercise Can Fix Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is when a man is unable to maintain an erection long enough for sexual activity.

It is usually associated with reduced sexual desire.

The causes of erectile dysfunction include muscle and nerve problems, and sometimes hormone imbalances.

The problem is also often a side effect of other underlying health conditions, such as obesity, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease, the Mayo Clinic reports.

A new research has added erectile dysfunction to the list of health problems that can be solved with a great work out.

According to the research, exercise may be nearly as effective as medication in helping men who have difficulty maintaining erections.

Reuters reports that regardless of preexisting health concerns, the research found that men who exercised were able to improve their erectile function in comparison to men who did not exercise at all.

According to researchers, the findings suggest that exercise should be included in erectile function treatment.

In Medical Daily‘s publication, it explained that the study is based on data 505 men taken from seven studies on ED and exercise published between 2004 and 2013.

Some of the men in the research were asked to complete either aerobic or pelvic floor exercises (or a combination of both), while others were not asked to exercise at all.

Erectile function was measured using the International Index of Erectile Function.

A take-home message from this analysis is that exercise should have a role in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, said Dr. Landon Trost, who is head of andrology and male infertility at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
