Luke Perry’s Daughter Sophie Cancel Trip to Malawi to be With Her Father Days Before His Death

The 18-year-old Sophie had been in the African country for a month when she heard her father was ill and rushed back to Los Angeles to be by his side.

Luke suffered a massive stroke on Wednesday, 27 February. He died on Monday at the age of 52.

According to Sophie’s Instagram, she arrived in Malawi on 29 January and has been working as a volunteer.

A GoFundMe page advertised in one of her posts before her trip shows her volunteer group’s efforts to raise money “to cover travel costs, immunisations, and visas, as well as funding for our projects of choice”.

According to the page, the volunteer group plan to work on project sites for six months in Africa and Brazil with the hopes of “creating sustainable education, health, and agricultural projects for communities in need”.

The work they are doing includes “building schools, working in teacher training colleges, educating about the prevention of HIV and AIDS, creating clean water systems, building toilets, and teaching and beginning profitable farming projects, as a source of income and nutrition for the communities”.
