Learn How To Make This Fantastic Potato Chops (Katlesi)

What else can we do with potatoes? Stuff some minced meat in them and call the meal Katlesi!!

Here is how to go about it:


  • 6 huge potatoes
  • 1/2 minced meat
  • 2 cups of oil
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • A bunch of dhania
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp of paprika powder
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper


  1. Boil the potatoes with salt until they are well cooked.
  2. Mash them finely, make sure there are no lumps left.
  3. In a separate pan, add the minced beef and let cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Add all the spices and stir well for a minute or two.
  5. Add the dhania and salt and cook for 5-7 minutes until well cooked.
  6. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  7. On separate dishes put the breadcrumbs and eggs consecutively.
  8. Using your hand, pinch a golf ball size amount of mashed potato and spread it flat on one hand.
  9. Now, add the cooked minced meat and mold it into a ball-like shape ensuring all the meat is covered in the centre.
  10. Coat the ball with beaten egg all over and proceed to coat with the breadcrumbs.
  11. Repeat this procedure until all the mashed potatoes and minced meat are used up.
  12. In a frying pan, add some oil and let it heat.
  13. Gently place these balls into the oil three at a time.
  14. Fry on each side until golden brown for about two minutes each.
  15. Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel.
  16. Cool and serve with a salad, dip or sauce of your choice!
