EWN announced that a body of evidence was opened against McBride on Sunday in Gauteng, after he purportedly hit and endeavored to choke a young lady in an auto.
He told EWN that he would not be commenting on the allegations.
When asked for comment on Saturday morning, police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said Saps is investigating a case of common assault from the Sunday in question.
“We will however not confirm the identity of the neither the suspect nor the victim until the case has been brought before Court,” she said.
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini did not immediately reply to a request for comment
