Nina Dobrev took to swimming with sharks.

The Vampire Diaries actress teamed up with Oceana, to raise awareness on the shark finning crisis.

Dobrev set aside her fears to swim with the sharks. In the video, she is fearlessly tailing the sharks.

“I am thrilled to join up with Oceana and help fight for healthy oceans… I’ve been fascinated by sharks for a while. They used to scare me, but once I realized what amazing creatures they are, I knew I needed to lend my voice and support to Oceana’s campaign for their protection,” she said, of joining Oceana.

“Sharks keep the ocean healthy. And they aren’t really interested in us… It’s our interest in their fins that’s scary.”

The film cuts to a shot of a harbour covered in severed shark fins.

“Millions of sharks end up in the global fin trade every year,” Dobrev reports.

She then pleads, ” Please help, and join me and Oceana in the campaign to stop the trade of shark fins and help save sharks.”

The demand for shark fins is one of the greatest threats facing shark populations around the world.
