GBV: Philippi Residents Continue to Call For Justice

Violence against women and children is continuing unabated, with trauma counsellors saying they’ve seen an increase during lockdown — especially since the ban on alcohol sales was lifted.

Philippi residents came to support the victims and families of those who had been raped and murdered.

The man arrested for the murder of a 17-year-old from Philippi appeared once again in the Wynberg magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

Leonard Mzingeli, arrested for the murder of Amahle Quku, made his second court appearance.

Mzingeli abandoned his bail application.

Amahle’s body was found dumped close to her house in Browns Farm, Philippi, last month.

NGOs are once again appealing to President Cyril Ramaphosa to use his power to stop the continued violence against women and children.
