Former IFP President Mangosuthu Buthelezi Recovers From COVID-19

Family members of former Inkatha Freedom Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi say they are happy that he has recovered from COVID-19.

Two weeks ago, Buthelezi announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus. He then went into self-isolation.

In a statement, spokesperson for the family, family spokesperson, Doctor Bhekuyise Buthelezi says the family hopes its experience will encourage others to intensify the fight against the pandemic.

The statement further confirms that Buthelezi’s latest COVID-19 test results came back negative.

The IFP has urged South Africans to continue to take the necessary precautions against COVID-19.

The party’s MP Mkhuleko Hlengwa says they’re grateful that their former leader has recovered.

The 91-year-old veteran politician was being looked after by a capable medical team. Buthelezi has diabetes.
