The body of an unknown man, which was burnt way beyond any recognition, has been found in a field in Ikamvelihle in the Eastern Cape. The man is suspected to have been murdered by an angry mob.
Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, strongly condemned the killing.
“The community must refrain from taking the law into their own hands to commit assaults and murders on other persons or suspected criminals,” he said.
Rabie said the police will not tolerate these murders.
“It is unknown how many perpetrators were involved in this murder or what the motive was for the murder. The SAPS are suspecting this murder to be committed as a vigilante attack and killing by an unknown group of the community,” said police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge.
“Persons taking part in vigilante killings immediately become killers themselves,” he added.
Beetge has called on anyone with information to contact the police.
