Department Of Co-operative Governance To Table Declaration Of The National Disaster Proposal

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma

The Department of Co-operative Governance says Minister is expected to table her proposal on the Declaration of the National Disaster to Cabinet on Tuesday.
This comes ahead of the expiry of the Declaration of a National State of Disaster this coming Saturday.

The coronavirus was declared a national disaster five months ago on March 15. The first 90 days expired on June 15.

Following the 90 day expired date, the Act empowered the Minister to extend it on a monthly basis. The first one-month extension was from June 15 to July 15.
The second extension which kicked on July 15 will end on Saturday. A new extension is needed and grounds for the extension are required.
The Department’s Spokesperson Lungi Mtshali would not say whether Minister Dlamini-Zuma will ask for another one-month extension, but he says she will table her proposals on Tuesday and the decision will be announced by Cabinet before the current one-month extension expires.
