With Kaizer Chiefs announcing Lee Baxter as their new Head of Goalkeeping, questions have been asked about Brian Baloyi’s future at the club.
Baloyi took on the role of goalkeeper coach last year following the sudden passing of Alex Revoredo, and there had been talks of him possibly taking on the position on a permanent basis.
However, the decision to bring in Baxter to head up their goalkeeping department means that Baloyi will now be working alongside the club’s new appointment.
Chiefs seem to have suggested that Baloyi will play a bigger role in the development structures alongside Rory Minnaar, saying, “Baxter will not only work with the first team but also with the development structures. This means that he will work closely with the other two goalkeeper coaches at the club, Brian Baloyi and Rory Minnaar.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs’ football manager, Bobby Motaung, believes that Baxter is part of a ‘bigger picture’ at Chiefs as they look to keep the club moving forward.
He told kaizerchiefs.com, “We welcome Lee into our Kaizer Chiefs Family. Coaching goalkeepers is a very specialised field. Lee is young, ambitious and he will bring a lot of international experience. Roping Lee in is part of the bigger picture of developing goalkeepers for the future. We are looking forward to this partnership which will take our youth development structures to greater heights.”
Baxter has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Chiefs that will see him remain there until the end of the 2019/20 season.
