The Best FIFA Football Awards 2017: These Are All The Winners

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lieke Martens were named Fifa men’s and women’s player of the year respectively at the annual ‘The Best’ football awards.

Ronaldo beat off competition from Lionel Messi and Neymar to win the men’s award for a fifth time. The award is decided through voting by national team players, coaches, media and fans.

Ronaldo took 43.16% of the total vote, but published results revealed that neither he nor Messi had deemed one another the best player of the past year. Messi garnered 19.25% of the vote  and Neymar 6.97%.

Asked how long he could keep playing like he does, Ronaldo said:

“I don’t know, I just enjoy the moment, the moment is great. I feel happy, I’m 32 and have won best player in the world and I’m so glad. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next year. I just try to focus on the moment.”

Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane was named best men’s coach while the Netherlands’ Sarina Wiegman walking away with the award in the women’s category.

Celtic won the fan award after they honoured the club’s 1967 ‘Lisbon Lions’ with a stunning 360-degree card display on the 50th anniversary of their historic European Cup win.

Orlando Pirates’ Oscarine Masuluke, who was nominated for the Puskas award, lost out to Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. Giroud’s goal received 36.1% of the 792,062 votes. Masuluke finished runner up with 27.48 % of the cotes.
