The ANCYL says they want young blood to take over government positions.
The Youth League says their Limpopo chairperson, Vincent Shoba, should take over as premier.
They have demanded 20% youth representation in Cabinet and executive councils.
The Youth League says the majority of South Africans are young, and that they need better representation in government.
Njabulo Nzuza, the league’s secretary-general, said that many youth league members were well-schooled in governance and ANC traditions and have the capacity to lead, we have learned.
Nzuza stressed that government should have a generational mix, and added that the Youth League was against the “recycling of leaders”, according to The Citizen.
Their call for Shoba to be the Limpopo premier candidate is driven, in part, by the fact that the bulk of the province’s population is made up of young people.
Meanwhile, the ANC Women’s League has called for greater representation of women in leadership positions. In particular, the Women’s League wants more female premiers.
Meokgo Matuba, secretary-general of the Women’s League, says that the League is working hard to achieve a 50/50 gender balance in government.
