According to the Christian Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt, three Egyptian Coptic monks were tragically killed in a “criminal assault” at a monastery in South Africa.
The incident is being investigated by South African authorities as a triple homicide. The church spokesman wrote on Facebook, “Three monks were subjected to a criminal assault inside our Coptic monastery,” while a police spokeswoman confirmed the discovery of the victims with stab wounds but stated that the motivation is unknown.
The surviving monk claimed he was attacked with an iron rod before fleeing. The incident illustrates the persistent difficulties of violence in South Africa, with the Egyptian embassy in Johannesburg alerted to the situation.
