South African Member of Parliament and struggle veteran Winnie Madelaine-Mandela is reportedly making progress at an unnamed hospital following surgery for a backache, APA learnt on Wednesday.According to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Madikizela-Mandela was rushed to the Johannesburg hospital earlier this month after falling ill.
Foundation spokesperson Neeran Naidoo said that she “is recovering in hospital in Johannesburg after back surgery for spinal stenosis.”
Naidoo added: “Her first surgery, for compression of the spinal nerve and pain relief, took place on 8 March. It was followed by a second procedure on 14 April to assist with her recovery.”
He said the family expressed their appreciation for the support they have received during her hospitalisatiion and were “grateful for the continuing respect for their privacy.”
Recently Madikizela-Mandela saw a court in Mthatha City rule against her in a case she claimed ownership of her former husband Nelson Mandela’s village home in Qunu.
