According to a number of reports in local media, rapper “Mos Def” has been declared an “undesirable” person and will be leaving the country on Tuesday.
“[Dante Terrell Smith] has been coming to our country more than five times, and during all those times he was using the US passport because he is a US citizen. So now you understand that for him to go and get a world passport is something which we do not recognize,” Home Affairs Director-General Mkuseli Apleni was quoted as saying by News24.
“DHA has accepted the apology of #MosDef & has agreed in principle for him to depart from SA on 22 Nov 16,” the department tweeted.
The rapper caused a big old hoohaa when he was arrested for trying to enter the country on a so-called “World Passport” earlier this year. He and his family had relocated to the country in 2014, reportedly on a regular visitor’s visa. His visa had then expired and he had overstayed.
The World Passport, however, was another story all on its own. While it is actually a thing it’s not a thing that is recognised by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs.
