Sowetan Launches Trendy Lifestyle Magazine ‘S Mag’

Launched in the vibey Newtown, Johannesburg on Thursday evening, S Mag talks all things women with a possible touch of men in the future.

In about three months, the small team of about 8 members managed to put together arguably one of the most topical magazines in the country.

From a woman’s take on the motoring section – mostly male dominated worldwide, to women making a difference in the country, the magazine is a definite trendsetter.

According to the magazine’s editor Thembalethu Zulu, they wanted to present a space that will reflect the different types of women that represent the country’s diversity.

“We want to reflect that women are strong, that women are beautiful, they are successful and I think the mixture of things that we got in the magazine – fashion, beauty, topical conversations – will really reflect the thread that weaves us all together,” she said.

Coming into an already popular Sowetan newspaper with an audience of over 80 000, S Mag circulation figures are already skyrocketing.

The daily’s audience will get the quarterly magazine for free with a copy of the newspaper.

Nandi Mngoma is the magazine’s first cover girl and she gels in very well with the tone of the magazine which is to tell a story of celebrities and other females who aren’t always talked about.

Actor Israel Makoe, who could not put the magazine down at the launch lauded the fact that it is women-centric.

“It’s a great thing because it’s women empowerment, women. I can say they’ve never been given as much opportunity as men so anything that is produced for women is good,” he said.

S Mag is available in the Sowetan newspaper on Friday June 24 in Gauteng and coastal areas.
