South Africa’s Flights Among The Cheapest In The World

South Africa ranks 7th on online travel agency Kiwi.com’s latest index for countries which offer the least expensive flights.

Factoring in both domestic and international journeys, it found SA’s average flight cost is $7.33 (about R106.50) per 100km of travel. The least expensive country, India, averaged a flight cost of $3.25 (about R47.22) per 100km of travel.

At the other end of the ranking, the United Arab Emirates calculated at a cost of $105.71 (about R1 535) per 100km of travel.

According to Kiwi.com, the research took into account over a million international and domestic journeys. Domestic flights were calculated by finding an average of flight costs from a country’s capital to up to five major cities within the country (where available), or a major city in a neighbouring country where no domestic flights were available.

International costs were calculated from the capital of each country to up to five international hubs within the same continent. All flights were checked for the same dates of travel (or neighbouring dates where necessary) on- and off-season, taking into account the same destinations and travel scheduling.
