President of the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired, SASA-II, Lizzy Vogel says 41 athletes will be representing South Africa at the Trisome Games 2016.
This is the first Trisome games/world championship for children with Down Syndrome and it’s going to be held in Florence, Italy from the 17- 25 July.
Speaking on Morning Live she says these games will run in a four year cycle just like the Olympic and Paralympic games.
She says most of the development of the participants is done mostly at school level as well as community centers.
Competitions at lower level are also organized by the schools and once a year there are national competitions.
From the national competition, then the best were chosen to represent the country.
A send off function will be held on Monday and the deputy minister of sport will be in attendance.
