Oscar Pistorius’s sister Aimee‚ to whom he is exceedingly close‚ left South Africa for Britain to get away from the stress and publicity following his marathon trial for the murder of his girlfriend‚ the Pretoria High Court heard on Monday.

Aimee Pistorius is now working in London with Investec‚ where she is a business analyst.

She disclosed her move to the UK on May 6‚ when she tweeted a photo stating “And so the adventure begins”‚ alongside one word‚ “London”.

Aimee had also taken to Twitter the month before to claim her brother had been treated unfairly compared to other cases where people had been convicted of shootings involving mistaken identify. She labeled it an “injustice”.

On Monday‚ psychologist Dr Jonathan Scholtz said Aimee’s departure was due to her needing to get away from the pressure of the trial since her brother shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp three years ago.

He also said that Pistorius had felt her departure as a big loss.

Scholtz was testifying for the defence as Pistorius waits to hear his new sentence for Steenkamp’s killing after the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) last year overturned his culpable homicide conviction‚ replacing it with a murder conviction.

Pistorius shot Steenkamp‚ 29‚ through a locked toilet door at his Pretoria home on February 14 2013.

He testified during his trial that he had fired the four shots believing an intruder was hiding behind the door and that his life and Steenkamp’s were in danger.

In March‚ the Constitutional Court dismissed Pistorius’ application for leave to appeal to that court against the SCA ruling.

Pistorius has been out on bail of R10‚000 and has been living at his uncle Arnold’s luxury home in Waterkloof‚ Pretoria‚ ever since his release from prison in October last year.

He had served about a year of the five-year jail term imposed on him before being released under correctional supervision.
