We’ve been waiting for this moment! Earlier, Anthony Tiffith, Top Dawg Entertainment CEO confirmed on Instagram that Kendrick Lamar’s latest project would be released on Thursday night (4 March) at midnight. “Thank @kingjames [LeBron James] for this,” he wrote.
James tweeted on 23 February that he wanted to hear “those untitled tracks asap!!!”
Untitled, Unmastered is Kendrick’s fourth studio product and is an eight-track album that features brand new material, including studio recordings of songs Lamar has previously performed during televised appearances like the Grammys and The Colbert Report. Can we take a moment to remember the flaming performance he delivered at the Grammys!
Each track on the album is appropriately ‘untitled’, with each selection accompanied by a date, with the exception of track 7, which is “untitled 2014-2016.”
The To Pimp A Butterfly star broke the news in a simple tweet on Thursday, saying:
Vocal features on Untitled, Unmastered include Bilal, Anna Wise, Cee-Lo, and more.
What really caught our attention, however, was the fact that producer Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ five-year-old son Egypt co-produced one of the songs on the album!
He said: “This is the best Dad moment everrrrr!!! Congrats to my son Egypt for producing his 1st track on this amazing Kendrick Album.
Following Kendrick’s success at this year’s Grammys, it’s safe to say that 2016 is proving to be a lucrative year for the rap king. He was nominated for 11 Grammys, taking home Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (shared with Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat), Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Music Video (shared with Taylor Swift).
