So Sad! South African Former Golfer, Wayne Westner Ends His Life In A Pitiable Manner

Former professional golfer Wayne Westner has terribly ended his life. He was born in September 1961 and was aged 55 at the time of his death. Westner shot and killed himself today at his home in Pennington‚ on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

Although the motive for the killing is still unclear, HowSouthAfrica learned that the professional golfer shot himself in front of his wife at the Gwala Gwala Estate in Rahle Road‚ Pennington at about 8:00 am. As gathered, there were strong indications that the couple were separated as there were speculations that his wife was about to relocate to Johannesburg when Westner arrived at the estate and forced his way in with a handgun.

Wayne Westerner’s Golf Career Without mincing words, Westner was one of South Africa’s finest golfers. During his days, he was best known for his 1996 World Cup Golf win‚ where he teamed up with Ernie Els. Wayne Westner also made waves, having won more than a dozen professional events during his career. He also emerged victorious at the SA Open twice‚ precisely in 1988 and 1991. He turned pro in 1982. Reports also had it that he was once mentioned as the 40th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Sadly, in 1998, Westerner’s Golf career was cut short by an injury.

The same injury reportedly forced him to retire as a Golfer the same year. Meanwhile, SAPS spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane told reporters that: “An inquest was opened after a man allegedly shot himself in front of his wife at Pennington area today”. “Wayne Brett Westner died in a shooting incident at the Gwala Gwala Estate in Rahle Road‚ Pennington at about 8:00am. His body was removed to the KZN Medico-Legal Mortuary in Park Rynie for a post-mortem examination.”
