Rev Chikane: The ANC leadership is the problem, not just Zuma

Reverend Frank Chikane, ANC stalwart and religious leader, says he warned the ruling party that they need to get their act together or risk losing support.

Chikane reportedly sent the party a memo in the run-up to the elections, which turned out to be true as the ANC lost its majority rule in Tshwane, Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela Bay; as well as what little support they had in Cape Town and many other parts of the country.

EWN reports that Chikane tried to meet with the ANC NEC last year, but the party’s top six only made time for him this year to voice his concerns.

Chikane said the biggest threat to the ruling party is its own corrupt members and leaders.

“I’m not one of those people who think the president is the only problem in the party, and the media tends to reduce that to the president. I’m saying it’s the leadership.”

He added that, should the ANC not pull up its socks, it stands to lose the National Elections in the next decade or so.
