President Jacob Zuma has advised students to use education for what he called mental liberation.
He addressed alumni of the University of Fort Hare during centenary celebrations in Alice in the Eastern Cape on Friday.
Zuma says, “The task of our young intellectuals is to use education to achieve the liberation of the mind of the African child.”
Burning schools, libraries and university buildings means burning the future
He urged students to use the knowledge they gain through higher education to build the country and not to destroy it.
Zuma lamented outbursts of violent protests which resulted in damaged property at schools, universities and health facilities.
“Students must reflect and think deeply about whose interest they are serving when they go all out to destroy their future and the future of the country. Burning schools, libraries and university buildings means burning the future.”
