In the Bible, Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights to get closer to God – A man from South Africa tried to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, only to die after 30 days – The Pastor’s church members were puzzled, given that the cleric was a very spiritual man with great health Bringing his faith to another level, a South African pastor named Alfred Ndlovu decided to beat Jesus’ record in fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. Alas, the man was only a mortal, dying of malnutrition in a month. The 44-year old pastor decided to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and chose to go on a dry fast, meaning no food and water.
The man left his home and congregation on June 17 and isolated himself in a nearby bush to fast and pray. Just like the Messiah, the pastor wanted to focus his attention on God and remove himself from worldly things. After 30 days of fasting, a hunger discovered the pastor’s body in the savanna and immediately called for the authorities.
The pastor’s congregation were perplexed as they truly believed that Ndlovu was capable of mirroring the fast of Jesus. Before disappearing into the bush, the cleric often boasted that he could break the record of Jesus. ‘He was a very spiritual man. It’s unfortunate he had to die this way,” a close relative said. ‘After a month we got the sad news of his death.”
The man was called by his community a man well beyond his age whose spiritually was greatly admired. He was known by his family and church members have faith that could “move mountains.” ‘Pastor was a healthy and religious old man who did not even look his age,’ the relative disclosed. The report from the local news network also said that the cleric had no history of medical history. In the Mathew 4:1-11 of the Bible, Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness and was tempted by the devil. Jesus overcame the test and survived the fast. Unfortunately, Alfred Ndlovu could not beat the Lord’s record.
