Non Stanford won the Elite ladies title at the Cape Town leg of the 2016 World Triathlon Series, beating off stiff competition from fellow Brit Jodie Stimpson and Flora Duffy.
Duffy seemed to be well in control in the bike section, but Stanford was still able to do the job.
She says she loved her experience of Cape Town.
“It’s absolutely fantastic. There was lots of locals that were shouting for the Brit as and that was fantastic. And I think she’s a local hero because she lives and trains here quite a lot. I’d really would love to come back again.”
The Men’s title went the way of Spanaird Fernando Alarza, who crossed the finish line five seconds before Jonathan Bronwlee of Great Britain, with Frenchman Dorian Conninx coming in third.
Alarza says he’s just happy to have qualified for the Olympic Games.
“It’s amazing and I’m happy with the medal and the race because now I’ve qualified for Rio Olympics.”
He added that South Africa has been great for his training as well.
“South Africa is an amazing country. I spent the two weeks in Stellenbosch and this country is amazing for training.”
