National HIV Campaign Aims At Skilling Girls

Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, says the launch of a National HIV Prevention Campaign for Girls and Young Women in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday will aim to keep girls in school till matric at least, so they cannot rely on older men.

Speaking on Morning Live, Motsoaledi says skilling girls and young women will make them less reliant on older men who promise them a better life by impregnating them and infecting them with HIV.

The National HIV Prevention Campaign for Girls and Young Women will be launched by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This campaign will run over three years and will focus on HIV infections, unwanted pregnancies, school drop-outs, sexual and gender based violence as well as unemployment among girls and young women.
