23-year-old rapper Mthembeni Ndevu, better known as Emtee, was the biggest winner of the night at the 15th annual Metro FM Music Awards

Hip Hop and new talent ruled at the 15th annual Metro FM Music Awards on Saturday night.

Newcomer rapper Mthembeni Ndevu, better known as Emtee, bagged four awards at the glamorous ceremony — that was attended by musicians, celebrities and even Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula — while female hip hop artist Refiloe Moeketsi, aka Fifi Cooper, took three.

Both new in the industry, the artists were the biggest winners of the night. This year’s winners also received a R100 000 cash prize for each category win, meaning Emtee walked away with R400 000 while Fifi Cooper took R300 000.

Rapper Kiernan Forbes (AKA) took two awards, while Afro pop artist Nathi Mankayi took home two awards for Best African Pop Album and the coveted Artist of the Year.

Kwaito legend and 999 music label owner Arthur Mafokate received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 20-year contribution to the music industry.

The show was hosted by radio personalities Bonang Matheba and DJ Moflava, who were hailed for doing a stellar job.
