Here’s Why South Africans Make the Best Significant Others

I may be biased, but I believe that South Africans make excellent significant others.

Whenever I tell someone I’m from South Africa they respond positively and will often tell me they know another person who is from South Africa and that that person is wonderful.

This is not a fluke. This happens because South Africans are generally great people and particularly great partners.

Here are 8 reasons South Africans make the best significant others

1. South Africans are warm and welcoming

South Africans are inclusive by nature, and they will welcome you into their lives with a warm embrace. Of course, it’s obvious why this would be a desirable characteristic for a partner, but allow me to further elaborate.

One of the challenges couples face in the early stages of their relationship is introducing their new significant other to family and their friends. Due to their warm and welcoming nature, South Africans find this a breeze and make it a pleasant experience for everyone.

2. They are comfortable and easygoing

South Africa is one big beautiful melting pot. South Africans are comfortable mixing with all different races and religions, which means they will likely blend seamlessly with your friend group as well as your colleagues.

3. They love a little adventure

South Africans are born with adventure flowing through their blood. While not all South Africans will be up for skydiving, their desire for adventure translates to various aspects of the relationship. They aren’t scared of anything and they love trying new things.

4. They have a unique outlook

This is particularly for South Africans who are now living abroad. South Africans have experienced a different way of life to many of those who have never left their home country. Their unique experiences will enlighten you and enrich you as well as give you a new perspective on life.

5. They are raised with respect

The number one essential quality anyone should look for in a partner is respect. South Africans are raised with a sense of respect for their elders, for their teachers and for their family. A prime example of this is from a young age South Africans are taught to stand up when a teacher walks in the classroom. You may wonder how this translates to a relationship benefit, so I will explain.

A friend of mine told me about a trip she took to see her family and during her visit, her cousin’s girlfriend started bickering tirelessly with his mother to the point of making her feel uncomfortable in her own home and making the trip turn sour. It would be highly unlikely that he would run into that problem if his girlfriend were South African. South Africans will respect your parents no matter what, because that is how they were raised.

6. You get to travel with them to South Africa

At some point in the relationship, if things get serious, there is a likely possibility that your South African significant other would want you to travel to their home country.

They would want you to travel to South Africa so that you can fully understand who they are as a person. Also, if they still have family living in South Africa, there is a good chance they will want you to meet them.

7. Your children will be multicultural

If you end up marrying your South African significant other and the two of you have children, they will have the privilege of growing up around two cultures. I personally think it’s always an asset to be multicultural, and that children benefit from having early exposure to different cultures.

8. They are straightforward

South Africans don’t beat around the bush. If something is bothering them they will let you know in a timely manner. This is obviously a great quality in a partner because it saves a lot of time and prevents a lot of pointless arguments.

South Africans are just incredible vivacious people that live their life with love and gusto. They are totally unique and will leave you with unforgettable memories. Consider yourself lucky if you have managed to bag a South African and do not let them go.
