We’re not sure why these braids are called the Kardashian braids, because this hairstyle has definitely been around for years. It makes me think of my childhood: sitting between my mom’s thighs on Sunday afternoons as she prepares my hair for the school week ahead. Nevertheless, it’s back with a bang and best when created with a hair piece to add extra length.

This is a great style if you want to let your hair to breathe, but still look good. In the image above, Azania has relaxed hair and trimmed her sides resulting in a pixie-cut kind of look. However, this look works for both relaxed and natural hair, and doesn’t require the use of chemicals. Avoid moisturisers when wearing this style as they can destroy the curls – rather go for a light oil.

We really dig this look – it’s edgy, cool and, when paired with a hint of colour, can really be funky. It’s also easy to maintain. All you need to do is moisturise the hair daily and trim the sides regularly to keep it looking fresh.

Despite “iphondo” being around for years, some ladies still rock and love it. You don’t even need to go to the salon. To get this look, you need hair that is long enough to pull into a high ponytail. Then wrap a track or two from an old weave around the base and secure it with a pin. Make sure the hair you use is clean and in good condition. Alternatively, you can buy clip-on.
