South Africa bagged four awards at the 2016 Africa movie Academy Awards held in Nigeria over the weekend.
Fulu Mugovhani won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Ayanda, while the romcom Tell Me Sweet Something won two awards: Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Achievement in Screenplay and Hear Me Move picked up the Achievement in Editing.
South African actors and movies were nominated for 23 different awards.
This years awards, the 12th edition, took place under the theme “Promoting peace through entertainment”.
According to Nyasatimes.com:
According to the awards jury, the academy received more than 480 movie submissions and only 65 movies were considered with the exception of Malawi, who did not submit entries on time.
The academy’s jury commended the strong presence of women in front and off camera, the increased number of movie genres and improvement in cinematography.
