A report by Forbes states that as many as 14 million South Africans use Facebook each month – representing a 16.6% increase over the past year.
In September 2015, the social media giant said that South Africa had 12 million monthly active users.
Over the same period, a World Wide Worx and Fuseware’s South African Social Media Landscape 2016 study, noted that Facebook had grown by 8%, from 12 million to 13 million over a year since its previous report.
According to Forbes, approximately 90% of South Africa’s monthly users are on mobile, and 95% of daily users.
Facebook said that eight million people use Facebook daily in the country, or 62%.
It added that 88% of South Africans use their smartphones daily, spending an average of five hours and 13 minutes per day on their phones, Forbes reported.
The South African Social Media Landscape 2016 study showed that Twitter had grown by 12%, from 6.6 million to 7.4 million users between 2014 and 2015.
Video sharing platform YouTube increased its user base to 8.28 million users, from 7.2 million users, over the same period.
