Dr Mpho Motlhabane – North West Road Management MEC , is expected to lead one of the major roadblocks organised in the province on Wednesday morning.
The roadblock will be manned at the N14 Ventersdorp junction as part of the provincial department’s plans to reduce road fatalities during the Easter weekend.
16 people however, have been killed in two separate crashes in the past three days. On Saturday night, 12 women lost their lives between Wolmaraanstard and Ottosdal and on Monday afternoon, four people died in Stilfontein in Klerksdrop after their car lost control and overturned.
The North West Road Management Department says it is ready to control traffic in various roads across the province.
The Department says their focus will be on the N4 linking Rustenburg and Pretoria, as well as the N18 between Mahikeng and Kimberly.
The department says officers will be more visible on all provincial and national roads.
