Port Elizabeth businesswoman Dr Bridgette Gasa once again proved she is a force to be reckoned with when she scooped two awards at the Celebrating Organisations of Excellence awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Friday.
Gasa, of Bluewater Bay, is managing director of the Elilox Group and was handpicked from 4 900 nominees as the most influential woman in the building and construction sector in both South Africa and the Southern African Development Community region.
The awards, run by CEO Global, recognise and celebrate influential women in business and government in all economic sectors, from agriculture to welfare.
Gasa said she was both humbled and in disbelief. She had won a number of awards and “each one resonates differently”.
“This award is very different from anything I have ever won,” she said. “It just shows that people are noticing that the work we are doing is important.
“To be chosen by complete strangers who have been looking from the outside and following your work has to be the most humbling thing.” Gasa first heard of her nomination last month.
“I was more elated when they were going through the objective of these awards and what it really means,” she said. “You know that it’s down to the wire and that was overwhelming. “By the time it got to them calling my name, I was beyond the emotions of it.”
