“Churches Should Never Mire Into Politics, They Should Pray For Politicians” – Zuma Urges

President Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is sick of SA churches getting involved with politics. He has called on the churches to back away from politics and focus on praying for politicians.

President Zuma was addressing members of Twelve Apostles’ Church in Christ (TACC) during their International Thanksgiving Day celebrations at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban when he made the remark. He lamented that it’s uncool to see that SA churches and church leaders are increasingly abandoning their prayer duties, and are actively getting engaged with politics.

President Zuma said: “It is sad to see the church and church leaders getting mired into matters of politics instead of praying for leaders. Instead of bringing communities together, they are creating more problems in politics. “I urge the church to pray for us as leaders‚ pray for our people to stop the hatred. I urge you to assist us to build a stable nation built on love.”

Reacting to Zuma’s statement about the church, Anglican Reverend Barney Pityana charged at Mr president and demanded of him to stop trash-talking the church because they’re agitating against his corrupt practices. Pityana said it’d have been better Zuma approached the South African Council of Churches instead of publicly condemning the church. To him, there’s nothing wrong with churches getting involved with politics.

He should not be making enemies with the church,” Pityana added.
