Check Out These Wise Tips To Ensure You Protect Yourself Successfully

Check out the following wise tips to ensure you protect yourself successfully.

  • Find a sunscreen you love

Finding the right sunscreen for you is what will encourage you to use it regularly. If you don’t like the texture, smell or density of the formula then that particular sunscreen isn’t for you, and you’ll use it irregularly, if at all. Luckily for every pasty, thick and yucky-smelling sunblock there’s a lightweight, easily absorbed formulation with a pleasant scent.

  • Always go for broad spectrum

Broad spectrum means the sunscreen offers protection against both UVB (burn) and UVA (ageing and cancer-causing) and rays. The term only came into effect in the past year and therefore may not be displayed on all sunblock stock you find in store. Check the label for zinc or avobenzone, as these are two ingredients that protect against UVA rays.

  • Slather it on

Most people don’t apply sunscreen correctly or as much as is needed to effectively protect their skins. It’s always easier to slap a little on in the morning. Experts recommend applying two coats instead of one. Dispense a line down your legs and arms and smooth in, then do it again. For effective facial protection apply a pea-size drop to your forehead, each cheek and your chin. Gently rub in and repeat. When using sprays, place the nozzle close to the surface of the skin and spray slowly, moving up and down until you see a sheen. Rub in if required, then proceed to do it again.

  • Don’t leave out your nose

Most of us either rush over the nose or skip it totally especially when we’re wearing eyewear because it’s a hassle to take off those sunnies. The majority of skin cancers occur on the nose. Other neglected areas are the hairline, feet, chest and ears as well as backs of legs and hands.

  • It’s never too late to practise good sun-care habits

If you’ve gone through your younger years wearing little or no sunblock, the risks you’ve taken definitely increase your chances of getting skin cancer. Your skin’s ability to restore itself also slows down with age so your risk is greater than ever, but what’s important is that you start applying sunscreen now.

  • Sunscreen needs your help too

The best thing to protect yourself from the sun is to avoid it as much as possible, that’s why the use of sunscreen should be accompanied by other protective measures such as wearing wide-brim hats, sunglasses and clothing that protect you from sun exposure.  Opt to go for that swim in the morning rather than at midday when the sun is at its strongest.
