Bloomberg’s Misery Index has ranked South Africa as the third most miserable place on earth, in terms of keeping a job and keeping inflation in check.

The Index, which is calculated by adding inflation to the unemployment rate, gave South Africa a ranking of 32.90%, which is the third most miserable country for all 74 economies surveyed by Bloomberg.

Last year, South Africa came in at fifth. According to the index, Venezuela is the most miserable place on earth while Bosnia is second.

South Africa’s current unemployment rate is 26.6% and inflation rate is 6.3%.

Thailand is apparently the happiest place with Singapore and Japan in second and third respectively. The United Kingdom is 17th and the United States 21st.
