BLF leader imprisoned

Earlier this month, IT was reported that the BLF leader, Andile Mngxitama may be arrested and imprisoned for 3 months.

Then, an urgent application was launched for his arrest at the North Gauteng High Court by the South African National Editors Forum (Sanef), amaBhungane managing partner Sam Sole and HuffPost SA editor-at-large Ferial Haffajee. Court papers revealed that the group wanted the Court to order the immediate arrest of Andile Mngxitama.

They argued that BLF and its leader are in contempt of a court order given by Judge Corrie van der Westhuizen on July 7.

The Judge on the date stated above granted an interdict Sanef applied for after BLF supporters assaulted Business Day editor, Tim Cohen. Mngxitama was to be arrested and imprisoned for three months (90 days) if the High Court grants the application.

It has now emerged that the Black First Land First and its leader were found to be in contempt of a court order.
