Poet Mzwakhe Mbuli says after former President Nelson Mandela was released from prison most people were excited that freedom has come and a chance to showcase our South African culture though arts and culture without fear.
Mbuli was speaking on Morning Live following the recent decision by the SABC to play 90% local music across the broadcasters’ 18 Radio Stations which has been hugely accepted by South Africans.
The move has prompted artists to work on a thanks giving song as a tribute to the SABC and COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
“The impact of the decision to play 90% local music is huge not only for the artists but for everyone in the industry. So the only way to show our appreciation to Motsoeneng and his team is though the arts,” says Mbuli.
Mbuli says the announcement for the tribute song has been made during Africa month so it’s only fair for it to be released during this month.
