The SABC has fired all eight of the journalists who expressed concern at events‚ including not screening visuals of violent protests‚ at the state broadcaster.
eNCA reported that Vuyo Mvoko‚ Thandeka Gqubule‚ Busisiwe Ntuli and Lukhanyo Calata were dismissed early on Tuesday.
Krivani Pillay‚ Jacques Steenkamp‚ Foeta Krige and Suna Venter had been handed letters of dismissal on Monday.
Dubbed the “SABC 8”‚ they last week filed an urgent application to the Constitutional Court to have their charges declared unlawful and Solidarity is to apply to the Labour Court on Thursday for an urgent interdict to have their suspensions set aside.
The move is seen as defiant SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng making good on his promise to rid the SABC of “disloyal” employees, which is being carried out by what he calls “Operation Clean Up”.
