The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that Black like Me founder, Herman Mashaba, has made himself available to run as DA Mayoral Candidate in Joburg in 2016.
“I have decided to announce that I am making myself available as Mayoral Candidate for the DA for Joburg 2016,” the DA quoted Mashaba saying on social media site, Twitter.
“For too long I have watched from the sidelines at how corrupt & self-serving ANC politicians have mismanaged Johannesburg.
“I believe that it is time that hard working & honest people make themselves available for public service,” Mashaba said.
“It is my hope that the city will once again be the beacon of light for the whole of Africa.”
Mashaba launched Black Like Me in 1985, turning it into a multi-billion rand company and household name in South Africa.
The entrepreneur recently co-authored a book called Black Like You and is CEO of Lephatsi Investments, which operates in the mining, construction, and logistics sector.
The municipal elections are expected to take place in May 2016.
