Convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius will hear his fate when sentencing proceedings commence on 13 June.

The former Paralympic athlete appeared briefly in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday, while a group of his supporters gathered outside.

His counsel placed on record that an electronic tracking device designed to monitor his movement was faulty and had been replaced three times. The device had apparently recorded movement at times when the athlete was still.

State Advocate Gerrie Nel said they were ready to proceed in June and that he was willing to come to court on a public holiday (16 June) if necessary.

Sentencing proceedings were set down for 13 June to 17 June.

The Constitutional Court dismissed Pistorius’ application for leave to appeal his murder conviction, and he now faces a minimum sentence of 15 years, unless he can provide substantial and compelling reasons to deviate from this prescribed sentence.

Pistorius served one sixth of his five-year prison sentence and was released in October to serve the remainder under correctional supervision.

He shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, claiming that he had mistaken her for an intruder on 13 February 2013.
